Factorial Structure and Liability of Maslach Burnout Inventory in Chilean University Students

Abstract
Burnout has been identified in university students and it derives from requirements, not only academic but social, they have to face. But, there is not a validated instrument to asses this syndrome in Chilean university students. The present study evaluates factorial structure and liability of a version of Maslach Burnout Inventory adapted to this population. 305 university students were surveyed and a valid sample of 279 participants, from 32 different undergraduate programs, was obtained. An exploratory factorial analysis identified three factors similar to those proposed by Maslach, and these factors and the general scale showed an adequate liability. Outcomes evidence that this inventory has an appropriate factorial structure and internal consistence, and its useful to asses emotional illness, specially of interpersonal nature, in university population.
