COGNITIVE THERAPY AND MEDICATION: A BATTLEFRONT DILEMMA

Abstract
The authors review historical tendencies, dominant hypotheses and problems in applying psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions, as well as research findings that sustain decision-making in different clinical situations. The particular role of cognitive therapy is then highlighted and the way it facilitates an integrative approach. Finally they illustrate with clinical vignettes the principles that guide treatment design and bring forth a collaborative process.
