EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT AND IT'S RELATION WITH MENTAL HEALTH IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS OF CHILE


Abstract
This study analices the correlation between the educational environment and mental health in students of first year at university. 576 students were surveyed. Three three mental health problems were evaluated: anxious and depressive synthoms and problematical consuming of alcohol, and three strenghts: self-esteem, life satisfaction and opstimism. In adition, the environmental education was evaluated. The results showed that mental health was associated with this. Specifically, student's perception about the participation of their equals in educative process is the one that's most associated with a positive mental health. The results emphasize that the contextual variables are related to mental health and they highlight the meddling that universities have and can provide the well being in their students.
