Emotional changes associated to the age and gender in people with retinitis pigmentosa

Abstract
The purpose of the study was to identify possible changes in the emotional state of people affected by a progressive and degenerative visual disease, associated to the progression of age and gender. 46 volunteers participated (from 20 to 65 years old) distributed in three groups of ages. They were evaluated with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger et al., 2002), the Beck Depression Inventory (Beck et al., 1979) and with a sociodemographic variables questionnaire. The findings showed an increase in anxiety levels from youth to middle age. An increasing in the age was associated with an increasing in the depression levels, especially in men; standing at the mild level of depression, in the oldest age group.
