The Theory and Evidence of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy


Abstract
In recent decades, a new set of models within the cognitive-behavioral approach have emerged: Mindfulness based Cognitive Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Metacognitive Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy, Functional Analytic Psychotherapy. The emergence of these new models has been accompanied by intense debates about the role of cognition and the incorporation of mindfulness skills. The objective of this paper is, first, to describe the Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, and secondly, to present the results obtained in the research and reflect on the consequences thereof, highlighting strengths and limitations of this new treatment model.
