Attachment and Overcoming Cope With Loss of A Loved One

Abstract
Recent research has investigated the relationship between attachment, as a mediator, and overcoming an adaptive loss. A cross-sectional study of 96 persons who have lost a significant person was performed. Two types of loss were analyzed: loss by death (n = 50) and loss by rupture of the couple (n = 46). Results show greater difficulty in overcoming the loss of a significant person in people with insecure attachment. These results are particularly significant in the case of anxious attachment and in the group of couples breaking.
