Dynamics and experiences of chilean heterosexual couples regarding the decision-making process

Abstract
The aim of this study is to understand the dynamics and experiences of Chilean heterosexual couples regarding the decision-making process in different areas of their relationship. A qualitative method was used, seven interviews were conducted to couples that met the requirements described in the research. Results indicate that validating each partner’s stance and individuality is a central element that would be involved in decision-making. Its lack can become a potential source of conflict. Ideal decision-making process for couples is based on the agreement, the discussion and consideration of each other`s stance, differing depending on their degree of importancere. For this reason, only those decisions considered as most relevant should be taken by consensus, such as those related to raising children and family issues, separating areas in which decisions are individually taken.
