THE IMPACT OF JOB STRESS ON WORKERS IN CHILDREN'S CONTACT SERVICES IN SPAIN

Abstract
This article presents findings of a quantitative study about workers in Children's Contact Services. The Children's Contact Services are places of care and psychosocial intervention in situations of conflicting family relationships. In these services, workers ensure compliance with the right of children to interact with their parents and / or relatives in such situations. This cross-sectional study used a convenience sample of 56 workers. The research findings indicate that none of the workers from Children's Contact Services presents burnout syndrome. This study also revealed that objective job characteristics such as pay, contract hours, and work schedules are significant stressors. Rather than presenting burnout, workers seem to use cynicism as a strategy to distance themselves from stressful work situations. This study suggests the negative consequences of work stress for workers at Children's Contact Services; implications for the training and practice of social workers are discussed.
