ADDICTION AS AN ANSWER FOR THE EMPTINESS OF IDENTITY

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the way in which addictions become a response to the emptiness of identity, from a psychoanalytical approach. The research was conducted in centers dedicated to the treatment of addictions in Tijuana, Mexico. The study was qualitative and interpretative; 10 in-depth interviews with people diagnosed with disorders related to the consumption of substances, seven men and three women were conducted, ages ranged between 20 and 47 years old. The qualitative analysis of the information content showed that subjects are fastened to the drug, since addiction is in response to the emptiness of identity. Moreover, it was observed that the care rehabilitation centers do not allow substitution and/or construction of an identity.
