PARENTAL ADAPTATION TO FRAGILE X SYNDROME: SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

Abstract
This study analyzes, through a systematic review, psychological and family well-being of families with children with fragile X syndrome. A search was carried out in different databases, finding 35 potential articles, of which twelve fulfilled inclusion criteria in this study. The results indicate that parental adaptation to the syndrome is a unique experience for each family and although most of them experience a positive adaptation, some parents are at risk of having mental health problems, especially if the child presents with problematic behavior. Conducting research in Latin American countries will help improve the guiding work of the professionals in responding to the real needs of these families.
