A Naturalistic Evaluation of th e Effect of Psychoanalytically Oriented and Cognitive Therapies in a Public General Hospital in Santiago de Chile

Abstract
There are no studies in Chile comparing effectiveness and efficiency of psychoanalytic psychotherapies. Here we present the results of routine application of OQ 45.2 ( Lambert et al) in a public psychiatry service in Santiago de Chile. We found a decrease both in global and subscales betwen the pre-test (M1) and the early (M2) y late post-tests (M3). The decrease was statistically larger in the Unidad de Trastornos de Personalidad UTP (n=37), psychoanalitically oriented, tan in the Unidad de Terapia Cognitiva (n=37). Even if in both there was a clinically significant decrease, this was larger in UTP. The main problem in both groups was patient attrition. This study finds good comparative results for psychoanalytic therapy of personality disorders in a public service in Chile.
