Effectiveness of Individual Traits on Faculty Performance with a Mediating Effect of Work Motivation among Teaching Faculty

Abstract
Faculty performance is influenced by a multitude of factors, with individual behavior being a key component. High workload and stress, job dissatisfaction, lack of recognition and rewards, and burnout contribute significantly to the global exodus of teachers from the profession. This study therefore explores the impact of individual traits on faculty performance in private engineering colleges in Western Tamil Nadu, India, with a focus on the mediating role of work motivation. Using a quantitative and empirical approach, the researchers surveyed 127 faculty members. The findings reveal that work motivation plays a crucial mediating role in faculty performance, demonstrating a stronger impact than individual traits alone.
