Psychometric Assessment of Body Image: Validation of the spanish version of the Multidimensional Body Self Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ)
Abstract
This study presents an adaptation and psychometric validation of the Spanish version of MBSRQ (Multidimensional Body Self Relations Questionnaire). The questionnaire was administered to a sample of 261 participants: 131 university students without problems of body image and 130 patients of cosmetic surgery. The structure of the Spanish version of the MBSRQ maintains the psychometric quality criteria with respect to the original version, although it is reduced to four factors, instead of seven: (1) subjective importance of corporality (SIC); fitness oriented behavior (FOB); (3) self-assessed physical attractiveness (SPA); and (4) caring for one's external appearance (COEA). The Spanish version of the MBSRQ assesses the predictable differences in all the relevant scales and it does not in those not relevant.
