EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION, NEGATIVE AFFECT, ALEXITHYMIA, DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY IN YOUNG WOMEN WITH EATING DISORDERS: A THEORETICAL REVISION


Abstract
This paper is a theoretic revision of previous research, which re-evaluates in depth the relationship of eating disorders with certain emotions in patients who suffer from Bulimia and Anorexia Nervosa. Furthermore, it seeks to answer questions guided towards emotional expression and regulation in eating disorders, levels of alexithymia, anxiety and depression, as well as the effects of shame and guilt in such disorders. The main objective is a broader comprehension of emotions related to eating disorders in order to aid during intervention and prevention. The idea is to coach the process through an improved understanding of their emotions and thus providing a healthier way to express them.
