Group psychoeducation in bipolar disorder: a non-systematic overview of literature
Abstract
Bipolar disorder is a chronic and cyclical disease which has strong destructive effects on personal, family and social levels. Although pharmacotherapy is still a key point for its treatment, during the last decades psychological interventions have become more important as medicine contributors. Empirical evidence shows a life quality improvement in those patients who join psycho-educative groups. Psycho-education emphasizes therapeutic adhesion, symptoms acknowledgement and management, and emotional control. It is one of the different forms of interventions that have received more empirical support. In this work we make a non-systematic review of literature of group psychoeducation for those patients who suffer from Bipolar Disorder, identifying its objectives and prime procedures.
