Difficult Moments in Psychotherapy: An opportunity for change

Abstract
This paper presents the findings of a piece of qualitative research aimed at investigating the perception therapists have of difficult moments in the psychotherapeutic process. The applied methodological resource was a semistructured interview, and the sample consisted of eight therapists 'from different approaches: psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, systemic and social constructionist. The therapists agree on the fact that difficult moments are an opportunity to advance in the therapeutic process and that these are determined by the therapeutic alliance, which involves both the patient's and the therapist's personal characteristics, the context and the psychotherapeutic techniques.
