Social Support Networks in Old Age and its Relationship with Attitude Toward Retirement
Abstract
Aim: Evaluate in retired older adults, the influence of social support networks over their attitudes toward retirement. Method: Simple retrospective ex post facto study. 128 not-dependent retirees, living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, answer a Questionnaire of Sociodemographic and Retirement Profile, the Older Adult Social Resources Inventory and the Scale of Attitudes Toward Retirement. Results: It was found that a larger structure or a greater satisfaction, justify more favorable attitudes toward retirement. Discussion: It adds empirical evidence to support the approaches proposed by Lazarus and Folkman and Cohen, and provides useful information for planning social policies that favor the elderly.
