What Influences Older Adults' Subjetive Well-Being? A systematic literature review

Abstract
Objectives: This systematic literature review aims at providing a reliable overview of the variables that influence older adults' subjective well-being (SWB) and provides suggestions for future research. Mehods: A computerized literature search was carried out and PubMed/Medline, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection and Scielo databases were searched from 2001 to 2012. Studies must have mentioned variables that influenced SWB as comprising its cognitive and affective facets. Results: Fourteen articles from 616 records, met inclusion criteria, with a total of 17,097 participants with ages 60 and over. There are rather consistent findings that social support, health, lifestyle, socio-demographic and psychological variables and coping strategies influence older adults' SWB. Conclusions: Findings provide support for specific correlates of SWB in later life.
