Wisdom and Happiness
Abstract
In philosophy wisdom is the main road to happiness. However, in psychology, although there are few studies on the relationships between wisdom considered as a quantitative attribute and happiness, results depend a lot on how wisdom and happiness are understood in psychology. In this paper, 321 subjects (both genders) filled in questionnaires on wisdom, happiness and wisdom tasks (performance). The results show that wisdom criteria give a multifactorial solution. The regression analysis gives scarce or non-significant results. Nevertheless, wisdom as an attribute of excellence to attain happiness is only relevant for some subjects. Psychologists must differentiate the concept of wisdom used in research and applications.
