Weakening Moments of the Therapeutic Bond: A Micro-Process Study
Abstract
This article presents a study about weakening moments on patient - therapist bond that take place at the ongoing therapeutic dialogue. It focused on moments of meaning construction process between therapist and patient that were qualified by judges as weakening therapeutic bond. It used a qualitative methodology of semiotic analysis. Outcome showed bond fluctuations related to dynamics of tension regulation and ambivalence. Tension emerges from the differences between meanings and the positioning of the actors around them, where high meaningful personal notions interact with others coming from culture. Tension and ambivalence are sense and meaning generative dynamics that affect the bond particularly when they are not addressed.
