EMPIRICAL ANALYSIS OF THE ALLEVIATION EFFECT OF MUSIC ON TEST ANXIETY OF COLLEGE STUDENTS
Abstract
Test anxiety is a common psychological phenomenon among college students, which may seriously affect the mental and physical health. This paper attempts to verify the alleviation effects of music on test anxiety of college students. Firstly, 210 students of a university in eastern China’s Hebei Province were selected and divided into a control group and a test group. Those in the test group listened to three selected music pieces, while those in the control group received no intervention. All of them were assessed against the Test Anxiety Inventory (TAI) scale before and after the experiment. The experimental results, coupled with the English scores of the subjects were fully examined on the SPSS. The results show that music can alleviate the test anxiety of college students, and also relax their mind and body, thereby improving their learning performance. The research provides a new research direction for enhancing the mental health of college students.
