PSYCHOLOGICAL NEEDS OF STUDENTS MAJORING IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING: AN ANALYSIS BASED ON PROFESSIONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Abstract
Psychological needs of college students have a direct bearing on their behaviors. A thorough understanding of their psychological needs helps to enhance the comprehensive quality of college students. This paper aims to identify and improve the psychological needs of students majoring in electrical engineering. Hence, a questionnaire survey was conducted among the undergraduates of Beijing Institute of Technology from the department of electrical engineering. The survey data were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis, based on the gender, grade and origin of the respondents. The results show that the psychological needs of students majoring in electrical engineering concentrate on four aspects: learning methods, interpersonal communication, influence and goal achievement; the psychological need for learning methods is the highest, and that for interpersonal communication is the lowest; there are significant differences in the psychological need for interpersonal communication between the two genders, that for learning methods among different grades, and that for goal achievement among students of different origins. Finally, several suggestions were presented to improve the psychological needs of college students from the perspectives of family, university and society. This research provides an important reference for improving the mental health of college students.
