INFLUENCE OF FOLK ARTWORK APPRECIATION ON SELF-COGNITION OF COLLEGE STUDENTS
Abstract
The appreciation of folk artworks is an important way to experience the artistic beauty, exerting positive effects on mental health. This paper carries out an empirical analysis on the influence of folk artwork appreciation on the self-cognition of college students. Taking painting as an example of folk artworks, the author utilized self-acceptance questionnaire and symptom checklist-90 (SCL-90) to investigate the self-recognition and mental health status of college students. On this basis, contrastive experiments were designed to explore how painting appreciation affects the self-cognition of college students. The results show that self-acceptance is positively correlated with mental health; painting appreciation could bolster the self-acceptance of college students and improve their mental health; the influence of painting appreciation over self-cognition is mediated by emotional reactions and self-awareness, which emerge under teacher instructions and collective discussion. The research results enrich the theories and practices of folk artwork appreciation and mental health education.
