Alert Mind, Quiet Mind: Is yoga a consistent therapeutic intervention for anxiety disorders?
Abstract
Over the last decades, studies have shown that a large number of people will experience some kind of anxiety disorder on a continuing or recurring basis. Recent studies have observed that complementary therapies such as Yoga significantly reduce anxiety symptoms. The purpose of this analysis was to identify controlled studies relating yoga therapy to anxiety so as to contribute to the implementation of reliable non pharmacological/alternative treatments. We have concluded that yoga appears to be a reliable, cost-effective and successful health care intervention in the treatment of anxiety disorders. Further well conducted research combining psychological analysis with anxiety-related physiological variables is necessary to establish yoga as a protocol in the treatment of anxiety.
