PSYCHOANALYSIS ON THE CONTEXT COGNITION MECHANISM OF COMMUNICATION SUBJECTS AS OTHERS

Abstract
English as a lingua franca (ELF) is the use of the English language as a common means of communication for speakers of different first languages. From the perspective of psychology, this paper explores the context cognition mechanism of communication subjects as others in the ELF communication. First, the theories on the conversion of context cognition were reviewed in details. Next, a context cognition model in ELF communication was established with communication subjects, communication language and cognition schema as the main variables, and applied to examine how communication subjects as others cognizes the context. The results show that the context cognition mechanism of ELF communication subjects is a dynamic two-way immediate mechanism co constructed by both parties of communication subjects as others, and attributes the mechanism to the mutual supports of all context variables. The research results shed important new lights on the communication between subjects from different cultural backgrounds.
