EFFECTS OF PHYSICAL EXERCISES IN VARIED INTENSITIES ON MENTAL HEALTH OF COLLEGE STUDENTS

Abstract
This paper attempts to disclose the effects of physical exercises in varied intensities on the mental health of college students. For this purpose, 200 college students were selected and divided evenly into four groups by the random number table method. The four groups were subjected to high-intensity exercise (running), medium-intensity exercise (running), low-intensity exercise (walking) and non-exercise, respectively. The subjects received a series of tests on visually evoked response, acoustic attenuation distribution, left and right hand cross-tapping, etc. The results show that the students after high- and medium-intensity exercises had much better mental health than those after low-intensity or no exercise, judging by any of the eight dimensions (negative emotions, marriage and love, healthy lifestyle, depression, economic life, social disorders, social responsibility and altruism). The research findings pave the way for further studies on improving mental health through physical exercises.
